Hi! My name is Anna. I was born in Canada, which is a very nice country, but I got bored. First I lived and taught in China, then I went back to Canada, figuring I'd be okay after having gotten that out of my system. It didn't work. Right now I'm living in Scotland with poor, abused padredon, who is forced to try pie recipes and cakes and cookies and vegetarian dishes. He takes one for the team, eating all this food.

I'm in the process of moving to Australia, where I will not be living with padredon anymore. People think this means we had a falling out of some sort, but really... it's just cuz I want to see Kangaroos, and he doesn't. Silly him.

I don't write about being an ex-pat here, that's all over at Anna Overseas, which is its own form of interesting.

I often get people asking if they can friend me. I'm all fine with that! And now, I get a little email telling me when people have friended me, and I can squee like a little girl (it drives my flatmate nuts) and go check out your LJ, too. So don't fret - the answer is always yes.

That being said, if you decide I'm boring or you hate me, I will not go into a deep mourning period and wear the colour black and talk about dead crickets all the time if you defriend me. I just wish that semagic didn't list it as "deleted you". It's okay.

I also *often* get people asking if they can snag my default icon. Feel free! Please use the credit as it is in the keywords. I think all my icons are snaggable, although what you'd want to do with a pic of me and padredon, I don't know.

Interesting things in my LJ:

• I'm attempting to make a pie a day for 30 days!


• I often ask for people's thoughts on history because I'm trying to expand my knowledge. Also, because people on my flist are really really smart.


• I'm on a long-term project right now to try and figure a list of 100 influential women of the past 1000 years.


• It started early, but I'm already trying to work out how many people I should expect for Christmas dinner.


• That's really in follow-up to my attempting to make my first Thanksgiving feast for more than four people. The world didn't come to an end, and no one reported suffering food poisoning, so it's all good.


• I collect quotations, because I'm not as smart as I'd like to be, and they make me sound clever and witty.


• I may have an addiction to making polls....


• I love Robin Hood the way I love other really really silly things. It's *silly* and historically inaccurate and it makes me smile. And every time they do something historically inaccurate, I have a drink. The longer the game goes, the less I care....


• I like to talk about faith (which I do not have), and other ponderous subjects (such as books I'm reading that have had a big impact on my thinking, or about issues of women and women's spaces). They're in public because I'd like other people's thoughts.


• I do NaNoWriMo. I've been doing it for... I dunno, I started the second year they did it, I think. This year, I'm writing a fantasy novel about a girl. That's it, that's what I got.


• I also do the significantly-less-famous NoNoNoNo, which a friend of mine started because she was too damned busy to write a NaNo Novel and decided that if a picture means a thousand words, then 50 pictures would count the same. It's drawing 50 pictures or taking 50 photos in 25 days. (It's Not!national, Not!a novel, Not!writing, Not!a month, see?) I won't be posting my photos here, though, just talking about them. I'll link to each photo, though.

There are lots of other things in it, of course, but those are the ones I suspect are the most interesting.

I do have a couple of filters, but they're area-specific (that is, I filter posts for my friends in Edmonton about my possible trip to Edmonton, and I filter posts to my friends in Edinburgh about... um... I dunno, I actually don't do that, but I have an Edinburgh filter). If you should be in one of these and I've forgotten, thwap me.

I rant about the blatant comma abuse at work, so please don't think I'll bite your head off for using comma-splices and making the poor semi-colon feel all lonely and stuff in your *personal* writings!

Anyway, that's me in a very large nutshell. I am in love with the tagging feature, so if you think you just want to read one or two things I write about, you can always just subscribe to them and get email updates whenever I post about it. I recommend the History posts and the Pie posts that way, because I think they're the ones that people who don't know me would be more interested in.

I feel I should end this with some sort of witty comment.
